How to delete windows.old folder
When you upgrade your PC to Windows 10 without first formatting the hard drive, or when you install a new Windows Insider Preview test build, previous version inside of the "Windows.old" folder on your computer.
When you try to delete the folder windows.old you may get access denied error for some files and folders.
Follow the steps below without need of any third party software to delete the windows.old folder safely
Find the location of the Operating System (OS) typically Derive C,
- Open File explorer (Windows key + E )
- Under Devices and Drives, right click on Derice C (or Windows installed folder)
- Click on Properties
Click on Disk Cleanup Button
Click on Clean up system files Button
Select the Previous Windows Installation(s) option to delete the Windows.old folder.
- Click OK.
- Click Delete Files on the pop-up dialog to confirm the deletion.
- On the Disk Cleanup warning click Yes to complete the process.
